Literary Response and Analysis, grades 5&6


To practice Language Arts skills, called Literary Response and Analysis, students can ask themselves these questions as they read new stories.

What is the main problem?
What evidence supports the main problem?
What is the resolution of the problem?
What is the theme, meaning, or moral of the reading?
What symbolism is used?
What common patterns can be identified?
Give an example of a metaphor used in the story.
Give an example of a simile used in the story.
Describe the character's motive.
Describe the similarities and differences in the characters.
How are the character's actions important to the plot?
What does the author use to make the character or story credible?
What does the author use to get you interested in the story?
